Zudena (Udenafil) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor specifically formulated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). As a prescription medication, it offers a reliable therapeutic option characterized by its rapid onset and prolonged duration of action. This agent works by enhancing blood flow to the penile tissues, facilitating the achievement and maintenance of an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. Its pharmacokinetic profile supports both planned and spontaneous intimacy, making it a versatile choice within its class under appropriate medical guidance.

Features

  • Active ingredient: Udenafil 100 mg
  • Pharmacological class: Selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor
  • Onset of action: As early as 30–60 minutes post-administration
  • Duration of effect: Up to 24 hours
  • Administration: Oral tablet
  • Available by prescription only

Benefits

  • Provides a extended therapeutic window allowing for greater spontaneity in sexual activity.
  • Demonstrates high selectivity for PDE5, minimizing off-target effects.
  • Supports improved erectile function across a broad range of ED severities.
  • Enhances confidence and sexual satisfaction through reliable efficacy.
  • Well-tolerated profile with a low incidence of adverse events in clinical studies.
  • Does not require administration with food, though high-fat meals may delay absorption.

Common use

Zudena is indicated for the management of erectile dysfunction in adult males. It is used to improve erectile function, enabling the ability to achieve and sustain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It is not indicated for use in women, children, or adolescents.

Dosage and direction

The recommended dose is 100 mg taken orally approximately 30–60 minutes before anticipated sexual activity. Do not exceed one dose within a 24-hour period. Dosage adjustment may be necessary for patients with hepatic impairment, severe renal impairment, or those taking concomitant medications that inhibit CYP3A4. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; it may be taken with or without food.

Precautions

Prior to initiation, a thorough medical evaluation should be conducted to diagnose ED, identify potential underlying causes, and assess cardiovascular status. Patients with cardiovascular disease—including unstable angina, heart failure, or recent myocardial infarction—should be evaluated for safety before use. Avoid use in conditions where sexual activity is inadvisable. Use with caution in patients with anatomical deformation of the penis or predisposition to priapism. Zudena offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

Contraindications

Zudena is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to udenafil or any excipients in the formulation. Concomitant use with organic nitrates or nitric oxide donors in any form is strictly contraindicated due to the risk of profound hypotension. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment, severe hypotension, recent stroke, or life-threatening arrhythmias.

Possible side effect

Common adverse reactions include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, and dizziness. Less frequently, visual disturbances (such as blurred vision or cyanopsia), back pain, myalgia, and palpitations may occur. In rare instances, priapism (prolonged and painful erection) has been reported and requires immediate medical attention to avoid permanent damage.

Drug interaction

Concomitant use with nitrates is contraindicated. Caution is advised with alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir), which may increase udenafil plasma concentrations. Moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors and inducters may also affect levels. Grapefruit juice should be avoided as it can increase bioavailability. Use with other ED treatments is not recommended.

Missed dose

Zudena is taken on an as-needed basis; it is not intended for daily dosing. Therefore, the concept of a “missed dose” does not apply. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed opportunity.

Overdose

In cases of suspected overdose, standard supportive measures should be employed. Expected effects may mirror those of adverse reactions but at greater severity, including severe hypotension, syncope, or prolonged erection. Priapism requires urgent urological intervention. Hemodialysis is not expected to significantly eliminate udenafil.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–30°C or 59–86°F) in the original container. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
