It represents a significant advancement in the treatment of female sexual health concerns, offering a targeted approach to a complex physiological and psychological condition. This medication works by modulating neurochemical pathways in the brain to enhance sexual motivation and receptivity. Consultation with a healthcare provider is essential to determine if this treatment is appropriate for your individual health profile.

- Reduces the distress associated with low sexual desire, improving overall quality of life and emotional well-being.
- Provides a non-hormonal treatment option for premenopausal women experiencing HSDD.
- Offers a predictable, once-daily dosing regimen for ease of use and integration into daily life.
Common use
Female Cialis (flibanserin) is indicated for the acquired, generalized Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. HSDD is characterized by a persistent or recurrent deficiency (or absence) of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity, which causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty. It is not attributable to a co-existing medical or psychiatric condition, problems within the relationship, or the effects of a medication or other drug substance. The diagnosis requires that the low desire is a source of significant personal distress to the patient.
Dosage and direction
The standard dosage is one 100 mg tablet taken orally once daily, preferably at bedtime. This timing is recommended to mitigate the risk of certain side effects, such as dizziness and sedation, which are more likely to occur shortly after ingestion. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and can be taken with or without food; however, consistent administration relative to meals is advised. Do not consume alcoholic beverages within two hours of taking Female Cialis, as this significantly increases the risk of severe hypotension and syncope. It may take up to 8 weeks of continued use to experience a meaningful improvement in symptoms. Do not adjust the dosage without consulting your prescribing physician.
Precautions
Before initiating treatment with Female Cialis, a thorough medical evaluation is mandatory. Inform your healthcare provider of any history of hypotension (low blood pressure), syncope (fainting), liver impairment, or alcohol use. This medication can cause severe hypotension and syncope, especially within the first few weeks of treatment or after a dosage increase. Exercise caution when engaging in activities requiring full alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, until you know how the medication affects you. Hepatic enzyme levels should be assessed before and during treatment. The use of other central nervous system (CNS) depressants should be avoided or closely monitored.
Contraindications
Female Cialis is contraindicated in the following patient populations and scenarios:
- Patients with known hypersensitivity to flibanserin or any of the tablet’s excipients.
- Patients with hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B or C).
- Concomitant use with strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, fluconazole, erythromycin).
- Concomitant use with other CNS depressants is generally contraindicated or requires extreme caution.
- Consumption of alcohol during treatment.
- Postmenopausal women and men.
- Patients with a history of hypotension or syncope.
Possible side effects
Like all prescription medications, Female Cialis can cause side effects, which vary in frequency and severity.
- Very Common (≥1/10): Dizziness, Somnolence (sleepiness), Nausea.
- Common (≥1/100 to <1/10): Fatigue, Insomnia, Dry mouth, Anxiety, flushing.
- Uncommon (≥1/1,000 to <1/100): Hypotension (low blood pressure), Syncope (fainting), Palpitations, Constipation, Abdominal pain.
- Rare (<1/1,000): Hepatic enzyme elevations.
The risk of severe hypotension and syncope is increased with concomitant alcohol use. Patients should be aware of these risks and report any severe or persistent side effects to their physician immediately.
Drug interaction
Flibanserin is primarily metabolized by the cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme system and, to a lesser extent, by CYP2C19. This creates a high potential for significant drug-drug interactions.
- Contraindicated: Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, nefazodone, ritonavir, clarithromycin) and moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., fluconazole, erythromycin, diltiazem, verapamil, grapefruit juice). Concomitant use is absolutely contraindicated.
- Use with Caution: Weak CYP3A4 inhibitors, CYP2C19 inhibitors (e.g., proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole), and other CNS depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, narcotics, sleep aids, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, sedating antihistamines). These combinations can increase flibanserin concentrations and/or potentiate CNS depression.
- Other Interactions: Use with other medications that lower blood pressure may have an additive hypotensive effect.
A comprehensive review of all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, must be conducted with a healthcare professional before starting therapy.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Female Cialis, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time the following day. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Taking more than the prescribed 100 mg dose within a 24-hour period significantly increases the risk of severe side effects, including hypotension and syncope.
Overdose
In case of suspected overdose, which may manifest as severe dizziness, profound sedation, syncope, or hypotension, seek immediate emergency medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center. Provide the medical team with the medication name, the estimated amount ingested, and the time of ingestion. Treatment is primarily supportive and focused on managing symptoms, particularly stabilizing blood pressure and ensuring a patent airway. There is no specific antidote for flibanserin overdose.
Storage
Store Female Cialis tablets at room temperature (20°C to 25°C or 68°F to 77°F), with excursions permitted between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Keep the medication in its original blister pack or container to protect it from light and moisture. Always secure the bottle cap tightly. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use medication that is past its expiration date printed on the packaging. Properly dispose of any unused or expired medication through a medicine take-back program or according to FDA guidelines.

Reviews
“After struggling with a complete lack of libido for years, which was causing immense strain in my marriage, my doctor suggested we try Female Cialis. The first few weeks I experienced some sleepiness, but that subsided. By the second month, I noticed a real difference. The spontaneous desire I thought was gone forever started to return. It’s been a life-changing treatment for me and my relationship.” - S.P., Age 38
“Managing HSDD is complex, and while Female Cialis is not a magic pill, it is a valuable tool in our therapeutic arsenal. It’s crucial to set realistic expectations with patients—it works gradually and requires strict adherence to the no-alcohol rule. For the appropriate patient, the improvement in desire and, more importantly, the reduction in associated distress, can be significant.” - Dr. E. Vance, OB/GYN
“It took patience. I didn’t feel different after one week or even two. But my doctor emphasized it was a cumulative effect. I’m glad I stuck with it. The low-level constant anxiety about my lack of interest in intimacy has faded. I feel more like my old self.” - A.L., Age 42
“The risk profile necessitates careful patient selection and thorough education. However, for premenopausal women with true, distressing HSDD who are committed to the safety protocols, flibanserin offers a mechanistically unique and effective option that we didn’t have a decade ago.” - Dr. R. Singh, Sexual Health Specialist
